Have the residents of a town who were branded too posh to have an Argos store, the right to have a say in who should set up in business in their town?

Maybe not but they can vote with their feet and not shop there.
I suppose if the headline had been 'Wetherspoons invade pretty English town', your question would have been 'How dare they dilute our national heritage'. No?
If it was evident that a large proportion of their intended customer base didn't want them they'd be fools to open a store there.
seems they are protesting about a drinks licence and the noise/hoo ha from a late night pub, protetst/petitions which i reckon goes on up and down the country in many towns.

they a 99p store in lyminghton, so i doubt they can be that worried about the chav invasion the daily mail are trying to snigger about.

Chavs and other scum drink in Weatherspoons, so I think if they are succesful, all power to their elbow.

It is a shame in one way because Weatherspoons do have some decent beers and the grub is OK and reasonably priced if you are after some quick nosebag - but equally, for these reasons, £1.50 a pint is always going to attract the scum.

I live in what is considered an affluent town. We have a Weatherspoons, and when 'normal' people walk past it on a Friday or Saturday night, you are pretty much guaranteed to be harangued by the scum underclass who are milling around outside having had their fill of cheap booze.

Fortunately we have enough decent pubs where beer is priced sensibly which discourages the chav scum underclass to mix with the normal decent people who enjoy a beer.

I'm rambling.....yes, I believe the people should have a right to veto.
I have to admit, I do find some of the 'jewellery' in the Argos catalogue to be the pinnacle of plebbery.
