When working in an industrial organisation most employees are paid 'Union Rates'. This is to ensure that workers are paid the same rate for doing the same job. Unfortunately companies try to keep this union rate near to the floor and so everyone works for a pittance. To branch out and try to negotiate your own wages is frowned upon by the company who would rather just deal with the union.

Come and join me in my Job Lucy. You can have the pleasure of working up to 19 and a half hours in one shift. I`m not particularly a union person but if it wasn`t for the union, you could probably add another couple of hours onto that very long day.
