We live in a civilised and prosperous society. We do owe single mothers, the infirmed, and the unemployed, a decent standard of living.
And don't forget the asylum seekers who are forced to exist on a pittance.
No, the world doesn't owe anyone a living. Because we are, by and large, a prosperous society, we do have a moral duty to support those folk who cannot support themselves and to help them to become able to support themselves. I am not sure that we have a moral duty to support single mothers????? and I think that people who are unemployed should be employed working for the community when they are not jobseeking.
I absolutely agree that pensioners should be supported to a decent standard. By and large they have led useful working lives and deserve a comfortable retirement.
you'd want to avoid Transylvania, craft, and all those village pubs where people cross themselves when you ask what's up in the castle, but I'm told the beaches are nice.
You get out of life what you put into it and that's the way it should be. Why should anyone get taxed into utter oblivion on their hard-earned income to support the Jeremy Kyle generation of mothers who perpetually get pregnant to ascend the benefits and council property ladders?
This is from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation-the result of research into what constitutes a living wage that will provide a living standard that does not push the poor or low earners to the fringes of society. It will never happen of course-even though what it covers is quite basic.Unfortunately-more and more are finding that life is becoming more of a struggle.
