So Limewire music file sharing site has been closed down by the courts. Remember Napster was first. How long before more pop up to continue the illegal activity?

Only ever used it for stuff which was impossible to buy, never really trusted it. Not used it for 3 or 4 years, but I got the closed down email earlier.

No it hasn't

there is no such thing as a limewire file sharing site, limewire was a P2P file sharing application, P2P means that there is no central site and the sharing is done from each users individual computer, it's virtually impossible to shut down a P2P network.

All the courts have ruled is the company can not continue to develop and market the piece of software called limewire, there are (and have been for ages) loads of other pieces of software that use the exact same protocols and network for sharing.

I was purely pointing out the technical inaccuracies in stating the limewire site had been shut down.

Haggis - the long-ranging debate about file-sharing raises an interesting question - how can you 'steal' a recording, when it is actually still there?

Yes, some artists do object to their music being circulated when they obtain no payment, but others are perfectly willing to share their music this way - it does depend on your own views, and those of the artist(s) whose work you may choose to acquire in this way.

Of course there is nobody else working in the film or record industries whose jobs depend on sales of films and music. I'm sure the 10,000 or so people that have lost their jobs in the music industry over the last few years will be pleased to know that you won't pay for the product they made because you think the stars earn too much.

dvds are quite cheap to buy these days, its nice to have a legit collection as well.

Music is like software, it is copyrighted and you need a licence to play it, which, effectively, is what you are purchasing. The money that you are defrauding is used to invest in new talent, etc., which is what the world needs instead of the garbage served by X Factor and the like!!
