No JTP he should not, it's all about choice, I remember there was a massive outcry about the white poppy some years ago, the people who wanted to wear it were against the conflicts we were involved in, the establishment saw it as a disrespectful symbol to our troops past and present, but f people with to sport one, it's a democracy and therefore we can go with whatever we wish.

Neither - he should just be left alone to do as he sees fit.
As he says, the soldiers fought and died so he could have the freedom to choose whether or not to wear these kinds of symbols, and he chooses to wear his poppy on the actual remembrance day.

There is an old adage that says "One volunteer is worth ten pressed men" and in this case I'd rather he didn't wear one, for whatever reason, than wear one but not believe in it. So in answer to your Q J-T-P no of course he shouldn't.

Sacked is a bit harsh. It's all down to personal preference. I always wear one, my BF never does - we both care and remember the brave and the dead.

Yes - OK it is a false dichotomy - not an either or.

But there certainly is a sense of outrage in some parts that anybody should criticise the poppy and Jon Snow's stood up to it every year for the last 4 years.

Personally I have to agree with him there's a certain jingoistic nationalism that seems tied in with poppy day that I find distasteful -

I think we should remember the casulties of war on all sides and especially the civillians who often die and suffer in far greater numbers during wars than the soldiers

I've always said I'll wear a poppy when there are German representatives at the cenotaph

Where does he say that? You're putting words into his mouth. He just has a blanket ban on wearing symbols on air.
Are people right to criticise him for being 'disrespectful' - No, I don't think they are, but there's nothing particularly praiseworthy about it either. It's just his choice.

It seems there are many on here who support the freedom of choice with vigour, yet when it comes to others making it their freedom of choice to accept homosexuality, mass immigration, or even what newspaper to read, these same people will condemn these person's freedom of choice.
