Not sure if this is the right place to put this but here goes, does a private landlord e.g council have to ensure windows open upstairs in there propertys as a way of escaping from a fire if it should ever arise I thought at least one window should be able to be opened completley for this use any idea pls thanks x
Not sure about landlord rules, but regulations for new buildings state ...
Assuming this is not more than 4.5m from the ground ... All habitable rooms (not kitchens) within the upper storey of a dwelling which has only one stairwell must have egress windows fitted in compliance with the Building Regulation unless that stairwell is protected in which case no egress window will be required.
Tk you for your reply the property is a standard 3 up 2 down with staircase leading straight into the hall there is no other means of escape the upstairs window are being pevented from opening via a gable , the windows were replaced a few years ago so dont no if this was ok then x
