Pink Floyds Dave Gilmour's son Charlie apparently has apologised for climbing the cenotaph during the student riots, was he out in sympathy with his fellow students as I am sure he is wealthy enough not to have to worry about fees. I'm sure his dad is proud of him today!

Oh well, when you're too dumb to play guitar I guess Uni is your only choice?

Obviously his action was a matter of concience rather than finance - as it may have been for a lot of the supporters of direct action.

As a father of adult children, I accept that they are free to do as they wish - within the law - and my approval is not necessarily a factor that would prevent certain behaviours.

However, i hope that would never behave in an inappropriate manner - which is my stance as a parent, and i am sure Mr Gilmour's position as well - his status as a world-famous musician is not really the issue.

most current students won't be affected by rising fees; more likely to hit kids still at school. So you can take your pick...

"Students only protest when their own pockets are affected!"

or "What business is it of students to protest over something that's none of their business!"
"Dark Side of the Goon?"

I thought it was a girl!
or "Dark Side of the Moron"

Bet Dad appreaciates all this free publicity for the family.

yes but climbing over the Cenotaph is wrong and probably is a disorder offence of some sort - after all they nailed that guy who pissed on it

I fail to see why it is particularly news worthy that Dave Gilmour's son was involved. All the male students there were somebody's son/s and probably far more affected by the fees than he ever will be.

In need some attention was he?
Protestation is fine and in all of this, we must remember that 98% of the students out there were protesting in a civil manner. However 2% riddles with extremists of both left and right and a dosing of anarchists were out to cause trouble. This is the scum that our rhetoric and anger should be directed at and, no doubt, MI5 and the Police are doing their trawling through the CCTV footage......I look forward to a nice wave of public disorder charges as well as various others.
missnemesis - it isn't newesworthy - but neither is snow in winter, but that's the level of superficial nonsense with which our media is populated - largely as a result of twenty-four hour 'rolling news'.

It's a simple fact of life that nothing newsworthy is occuring every minute of every day, so the iedai arre forced to try and make an interest out of a story where clearly non exists - and this is just such a point.

Pink Floyd fan's son protests - not news.

Pink Floyd guitarist's son protests - not news - but we can hang a puff piece on it until it snows again and gives us something else to blather about.
Agreed andy and in the words of the mighty Metallica "You know it's sad but true"
they dont deserve no educashion
Apparently the Cambridge history student said "he didn't know what the Cenotaph was"

How far has he got towards his degree in History?

I suspect he is still studying the age when man still dragged his knuckles on the ground.
