Travel Misery?

At what point do you stop living like a vagrant in some poxy airport and just go home and forget travelling for Xmas?

Many of the people in the airport are tying to get home for christmas. They don`t live in the UK

R1....I agree with 237SJ........but also I agree with you.....I would just say "bu99er it" and go back home and cancel my holidays.

Being somebody that has very little patience, I'd've given it about 5 minutes - in fact, I wouldn't've travelled to the airport unless I'd known my flight was definitely going to be taking off.

I understand part of the problem is a lack of any meaningful information - this would wind me up more than anything else because you are just in a state of limbo.

R1geezer I fully understand what you're saying as I'm also from the "Sod it there's always another time" camp rather then sit there unwashed unshaved and any last bit of self respect and dignity ebbing away with each soulbreaking second bu this is just me. Many have planned scrimped and saved and are the "We'll get there by hook or by crook brigade" as on the other side a quick shower and a cocktail on a beach will soon wash away any memories of the horror you left behind though it's highly likely that the same horrors will await you on your return for another bite of you.

There are a lot of people who just don't have that option. There are people returning home, there are people stuck in transit.

One pair I heard on the Radio today were trying to get to Paris from the US. They were first diverted to Iceland and then to Heathrow and were in the queue for the Eurostar.

I'm sure they'd go home if they could wouldn't you think?

Obviously I mean those that live here trying to fly somewhere for xmas, I'd say that's about 50-70%. If they just said bu666er it and went home then the ones trying to get home to anothet country would have a much better chance.

at charles de gaulle, 3,000 people were "forced" to spend a night in the terminals after 40 percent of flights were scrapped. soldiers were sent to the airport with 300 beds and 2,500 blankets as stranded travellers faced another night camped in terminals.

frankfurt airport, germany's busiest, resorted to clowns to keep stranded children entertained after the police were sent in to calm some angry passengers. the airport scrapped around 340 flights Monday after more than a thousand travellers spent the night on camp beds.

there is also disruption at amsterdam-schiphol airport and brussels airport.

You just have to shake your head in bewilderment at some people's utter stupidity, don't you??? Like none of this hasn't been forecast for weeks, eh?

But still the lemming syndrome prevails, the "Oh, that won't happen to me, it'll only happen to everyone else! I won't get stuck in my car on my pointless journey, will I? Or else I won't get stranded at the airport for days on end either?"

If they had a braincell between them they'd be bleedin' dangerous!!!

I don`t know how people who buy air tickets months in advance are supposed to know what the weather will be like when they travel, do you?

Even if the News is reporting the airport as closed? ie Nowt taking off? that's the problem, even on the screens flights have been shown incorrectly, you can't get through on the phone and you can't rely on what's on the net. Happy camping!

Depends which airline you`re travelling with R1. Some are more informative than others. One of the terminals at LHR is only letting people inside now if they have a ticket for a departing flight. That`s a sensible way to handle things.

I wouldn't bother going to the airport if i was going on holiday. I would get straight under my fur rug, switch on the tellie and put the log fire on. Who needs to go abroad anyway ??

B) Avoid the mad crowds at the supermarket.
C) Avoid the family "get together" with the sometimes artificial "bonhomie"
