Qualified?

On a Christmas Card from an acquaintance was this note:

"Although we have two qualified children, the situation for jobs is so bad in the UK,that they remain unemployed...hopes for 2011"

The two "qualified" children.......one left school at 17yrs of age (because he didn't like school) the other embarked on a "Hairdressing Diploma" which she failed to finish.

How can a parent call these children "qualified" or am I missing something?

Maybe he means they qualified for benefits.....

I did ask Mrs sqad to reply amending the "two qualified" description to " two unqualified children" but she steadfastly refuses.

Could be their parents didn't know you were so well informed and was trying to make an impression, or on the other hand were advertising them for a job to friends & relatives.

the 17 year old will have had to do at least 1 GCSE, perhaps a vocational one like cooking or computing

Maybe qualified is just short for 'quit university and local institute for indefinite easy dossing'?

Are the parents comfortable financially; could they set up a suitable business?

jayday....if I had 2 "layabouts"......I would not invest one penny in their future.

Who in their right mind would set up a business for two youngsters who couldn't even finish school.

that's YO sqad. My dentist & vet are both struggling on PAYE & uni debts while their parents brag of countless off shore homes. Some just can't see beyond their nose.

If your dentist and vet are struggling then maybe the have overstretched themselves and are living beyond their means.
