She claims to be able to turn gay men straight via counselling, and agrees that homosexuality as "a mental illness, an addiction and antireligious phenomenon”.

However...if a gay man or woman is genuinely unhappy being gay and wants to seek counselling for a 'cure', shouldn't they have the option?

Or is this reinforcing the idea that homosexuality is a mental illness and that all people are really heterosexual underneath?

Well it's her opinion, we are all entitled to that. I have often been told that gay's are born not made but that doesn't seem to stop Gay's trying to turn young straight boys so I guess this woman is doing nothing more than that.

Sp you are the expert, are gay's born? Can young men be turned gay and/or straight?

I think if Lesley Pilington was counselling gays in helping them to come to terms with WHY they want to turn straight is one thing, but I highly doubt you can turn someone from one to the other.

Incidentally, it's a myth that gay men prey on young straight men to turn them gay.

Any stresses are down to somesort of guilt that your not conforming to what is percived as the socio norm and its that guilt anyone in her position should be addressing.

As a hetrosexual man I find it both stupid and annoying that such antiquated thinking can persist into the 21st century.
