I suppose Traveller's are above the law when it comes to planning decisions.
Jack i signed the petition to help them get that exemption. You still can't answer the question.
All arguing, debating, call it what you like. Do you think these incidents have done more harm than good jack?
I like what this chap had to say on the matter.

As a openly Gay man I must admit this story sickens me and I feel it puts Gay rights back 10 years. I wouldnt want to stay somewhere I was nt welcome and when making a booking would check there was no problem. This was nt a corperation it was a couple running a buisness from there home with strong religous beliefs , wether I agree with them or not it was there home and ultimatly there choice. There always seems to be a certain faction of the gay community who wish to advertise there sexuality and ring it like a bell . You are who you are your sexuality is just part of it I wish people would stop acting if it was the most important part of there character ................

Does it have any bearing on my OP ?
I've done you the courtesy of addressing your off-topic semi-thread...........please do me the courtesy of leaving that particular issue alone.
Notice how in Jacks post it says Religious Exemption

So Jack has no problem with some religious exemptions
Question Author
I, too, agree with parts of that.

I do not agree, however, that anyone should be allowed to ride rough-shod over a statute just because it may compromise their relationship with their invisible friends.......
Do the Sikhs have visible ones then
Question Author
Has there been a statute of religious exemption passed in respect of guesthouses that everyone is failing to mention.............?

That would be a NO, then..........
One way of not answering the question again
But can you expect these kind of people to change so quickly?
my mother in law is racist and homophobic, but it is not hereditary. Her three kids haven't caught it.
No you can't Mick....I have some sympathy with them but the fact is it's the law...They should have just apologised and said they'd double booked....
she's a sceptic wrinkly chain smoking nasty back stabbing Lady Veg too.

ok nowt to do with the thread.................. but it made me feel good to get it off my chest ;0)

It'll be a long time before we rid the world of racism and homophobia.
But, at least, the law is starting to catch up and take punitive measures against those acting outside already framed statutes.
septic
Except for the fact that Christians can't help but let their feelings be known when you are going against their God...
I fink it's sgusting ! God invented adam and eve not adam and steve !
Whatever next, what's the world coming to, and another thing - muslims.
The youth of today, no respect - all theyre interested in is hoodies and crack and ringtones, and it is now considered sexiest to have a go at female linesmen.
I was just trying to be funny there but see what happens no-one laughs.
Bloody bleedin workshy layabout scum liberal hand wringing pinko studentmeerkat egg fish dog banana etc etc
I hope this will help (but I suspect it won't)...

The equality laws apply to EVERYONE.

If a gay couple who own a 'gay friendly' guest house refuse to let a room to a heterosexual couple, they can be taken to court and fined.

If a Jewish couple who own a restaurant post an advert asking for male waiters, they can be taken to court and fined.

If a small engineering company actively turn down qualified electricians who happen to be disabled, they can be taken to court and fined.

This is the level playing field that I think we should all be striving for.

If we took away those controls, we give free reign to companies to implicitly put up signs which say:

No blacks
No women
No handicaps
No Jews
No old people
No anything except for white straight males

And that would be very bad for individuals in particular and society in general.
Ummmmummmm i have never known many Christians but i use to know a few gays and in some pubs/club they were the same they made sure that you heard that they don't like any people with homophobia
Question Author
Stop the press...............

"Gays don't like people with homophobia a bit like blacks don't like racists" shocker !!
One other point - I absolutely and fiercely disagree that these stories have put back the cause of gay equality. That sentiment saddens me, because it's the 2011 equivalent if saying ti Rosa Parks, "Listen love...why don't you just wait for the next bus and stop making a fuss".

Furthermore, the Sikh/Crash helmet comparison doesn't really fit. The only person affected by Sikhs adhering to the constraints of their religion Re Sikhs themselves (and this may be beside the point, but who has actually ever SEEN) a Sikh on a motorbike?)

The difference with this and the recent story is that because of their religious observance, some Christians feel they cannot operate within existing laws and it affects others. It is NOT just themselves in the story.
