Sep 11th, phone call from husband. Others in office said it was a hoax or publicity stunt.
Diana, in bed. Turned on radio 1, heard depressing music, turned off. Husband (gone for bacon and rolls) phoned. Went to loo and cried. On day of her funeral was on a plane to Turkey, one minutes silence, cried. Work put her picture and white lillies in the window, cried. She was a big part of my 80s.
Jackson, can't remember.
Shuttle going down, heard over tannoy at work, shocked.
Elvis, helping my Dad to keep a boat off rocks during a storm. Boats owner came and told us, Dad was a big Elvis fan, he cried!

About September 11th: I was working for a company in Darlington. One of the Directors came upstairs into the drawing office and said "A plane has hit the World Trade Center" (Don't think ill of me or this statement - I thought he was going to deliver a punchline). I tried a few local radio stations and got nothing. I then tried 5 Live and heard Simon Mayo describe the footage that was breaking.

I think the Diana incident happened overnight but hearing that Diana had died was such a shock it was a bit hard to believe.

Sorry to anyone who might have got the wrong idea about what I put. Didn't mean any offence.

I was in Cornwall on holiday when 7/7 happened and I was desperately trying to get hold of my mum as she works in Westminster and I had really bad reception on my mob.

September 11th: Was walking from one building in school to another when my friend Deirdre told a load of us that a plane had crashed into the twin towers.

When Princess Diana died, I was in my sitting room in the morning and couldn't believe it, ran out to the kitchen and told my mam who was shocked.

When Michael Jackson died I was at home online and noticed one of my friends had it on their facebook status.

9/11 first heard whilst at work. I remember that our offices (local authority) were put on alert and there were worries that docklands would be next target..

Jackson no idea and not bothered anyway.

Diana on way up to Lincolnshire for nephews christening...early papers at the service stations were saying she'd survived. Particularly member that the radio stations were playing depressing music in-between updates that she'd died for the entire journey.

9/11 I'd just got in from work and my daughter was watching cartoons when my mum phoned to tell me - daughter was well peed off when I changed the channel, and more peed off that the news stayed on for days.
Michael Jackson, I was on the computer and my dad phoned.
Diana was an odd one. My ex and I had been visiting friends and for some reason they briefly put the radio on so we knew there had been an accident, I watched a bit on TV when we got home then went to bed. In the middle of the night the radio alarm clock came on (about 5am or so) and it was the official announcement. I can't say I was a fan, I just kind of went ooh, and went back to sleep.

911 - at work - but had gf in states at time. She was equipped to go to site. Her MIL was scheduled to be a stewardess on one of the planes went down but somehow her duties had been rescheduled

Princess Di - was listening to talk sport (or what ever it was called then - maybe just talk) - the presenter Mike Dicken(sp) covered event through the night (he has since died in a car accident)


Biggest for me was hearing bomb on 7/7 that was on the bus - used to live just around around the corner- my partner new the sound of a bomb - she had lived through IRA in 70's. We had guys working in London and just rang to say down tools and get the flick home - was a long day till we knew they where all home safely. Even stranger using Russell Square tube when it opened again.

That made my mind up to move out of London - even though my parents lived through the blizt in WW2

sept 11th-
i was sitting on the coffee table at my parents house when i was 16yo, at first i thought it was a movie until my mom explained. i watched the 2nd plane hit live on tv.

unsure where i was when he died but i remember where i was when the verdict to his child sex claims were being announced, i was driving home from work after 2-10pm late shift when it came live on the radio.
Princess Diana- I was having a sleepover with my 2nd cousin at his nans house, when we woke up to it being on plastered across the tv on the sunday morning. I was only 12yo then.

9/11 - at work. An IT trainer came in on her mobile and told us to put the tv on quick because something awful was happening in the US.

Diana - it was my mum's birthday, I was lazing in bed on a sunday morning & put the tv on.

Michael - can't say I remember that. Though I do remember where I was when Elvis died. (Leicester with Lil in Lodgings - you could make a country & western song about that.....)

1. I was watching the tv in the staff room on my break. Everyone who was finsishing their break was going back down to work at telling everyone else and people kept popping up to see the pics ( including the boss ) as they couldnt believe it. I got a phone call from my son who travelled on the tubes to work. He told me he was ok which I was so relieved about. If he had been on the earlier train he could have been involved

2. Again, just arriving bleary eyed at work and our receptionist at the time, was crying when I arrived and I couldnt understand why as I hadnt watched the tv before I came to work. I was shocked when I heard about Diana.

9/11- went horseriding on holiday in the New Forest and came back to a changed world, cars stopped with doors open and radios on, wondered what on earth had happened, really stunned.

Diana-my husband worked shifts then and came to wake me up to tell me she was injured and Dodi and the driver were dead, so I got up and watched TV when they announced that she had died.
