So there has been a call for the wealthy to forgo their winter fuel allowance so that it may be distributed to the more needy. Sounds great in principle but . . . the needy will already be getting their own allowance. So to whom will any donations be distributed?
i didnt know the wealthy got a winter fuel allowance..unless they are rich pensioners..are ALL pensioners,no matter how wealthy entitled to the allowance then??
everyone who reaches the retirement age for women gets winter fuel allowance. many rich and famous have just been donating it to charity for years, now a charity has been set up to enable very poor pensioners to benefit if these people give to a specific local charity.
You are entitled to it no matter how rich you are. We have some family friends (both in their 60s) who are millionaires, and they claim their winter fuel allowance.
I thought this was purely voluntary one-off for the more well off pensioners to give up their allowance to the struggling ones. But who is to say where the buck stops now? Will there be a U-turn on the heating allowance now that it is clear that some don't want/need it, has it opened the way to means testing to qualify for it?
Hi all, I am in receipt of benefits as I am unable to work due to extreme ill health.Up until four years ago, I had worked for thirty five years ,it was devastating to have to stop work. The amount of money I am allocated to live on means I am able to live week by week , it is difficult to save and treats are rare. I like many others in my position would appreciate a winter fuel payment of any amount very much .
If anyone out there feels they have too much money and do not need their winter fuel allowance please let me know. I can use any spare cash that's floating around right now!
I hope it isn't means tested as I will just miss out as we have only just above the limit in savings to claim benefits. OH and myself were both made redundant before we were retirement age but I am now getting State pendion but OH not as he isn't 65 yet. We are not getting any interest on our ISA thus have to draw on our well-earned savings each month and they are disappearing rapidly.
