I'm about to explode. I need to vent.

I've effin had it! Work is a complete sh1te and amongst other things I'm literally going mad.

Someone just said to me, 'what the worst that could happen' (trying to make me feel better, it didn't work). My response was 'yeah' but what I really wanted to say is 'how about you ask that to the guys I've got working in Dublin who I can't afford to put on a flight home tomorrow or the ones who are going on a flight there tomorrow but I can't afford to book their hotel, or the companies who are now sending us LBA's because we're not getting paid quickly enough so I can't pay any bills, or that fact that if I don't keep this crap going then I'll eventually watch my own brother and a guy I consider a friend lose everything (they run the business)'. Right now I feel like walking out of the office, packing a bag, going to the airport and getting on the next plane to anywhere so I don't have to deal with a Sugar job and a.holes who persist on making my personal life miserable. Oh, except I can't because I didn't get paid in time due to the company having no sodding money.

Is there some sort of time scale on the good things they keep telling us about for for those of us who are waiting?

we all have a 'to hell with this' day occasionally.

one day a few months ago- i was so very close to getting in the car and driving until the tank ran dry - then getting out and just walking and walking and walking.....

i have given up waiting for the good times, i now just struggle from week to week.

That's probably what you should be thinking about, seriously. I can't answer it, of course, but is there an end in sight? Is there a business plan that should get you into the black sometime soon? Are the problems being dealt with or left to drift?

Sorry if you wanted more Chatterbanky tea and sympathy; but if it's really getting to you, you should try to find out exactly what the prospects are.

Evian, I feel for you, though have no practical solutions.
I have helped run and manage family businesses and on one occasion, seen it go to the wall - it can be quite soul destroying.

If the better times are coming, I hope they get to you soon.

I'm really sorry to hear this Evian. Is it just the fact that you are not getting paid quick enough that's causing the problem?

If YOU ran the business what would you do differently?

Did you take any action on your plan to work out costs etc?

If you had a meeting with the 'management' would they listen to any logical proposals?

I don't know what answers I'm looking for Jno. I just don't have anyone I can vent to and I needed to get it out of my system.

But if anyone feels like investing say £100,000k into the ducting industry, I can reccommend a company.

Hi Evian, I can sympathise. Himself is having similar problems getting people to pay. I've had a Sugar day too - woken up by being sick on by thing 1 at an ungodly hour, himself has been 'working from home' and irritating me and now it has rained on my washing and himself didn't notice (plus I don't feel great)!

I'm afraid this won't cheer you up but, sometimes it's just time to cut your losses and get out. If trade is that bad in the ducting industry how long can the business last?

Seems like a sugar day for a few of you. I've no practical solution either, I've seriously overspent this month and it's going to take me a while to get back on even keel. You'll have to discuss the work problem with the management or someone Evian, you can't take the flak for this. Send in the debt collectors, have a word with the bank. And the personal problem will have to be confronted. Chin up and wade in.

My nephew has his own business in Manchester and tells me that the worst payers are big businesses like M&S and their ilk.

Have you considered short-term debt factoring? Maybe your bank could help on this.

ummm - why is that those who can afford to pay take the longest. It would drive me mad that I was letting people down because of the tardiness of a multinational company.

Probably because they have the power, they are the big company and no doubt a small business needs these companies to keep afloat.

Not necessarily - my nephew now does little or no work for the bigger businesses through choice, mainly due to their reticence, and he is doing much better now, plus he no longer has the stress of chasing them up eight to ten months after a job where he has supplied materials, time and labour.

I suppose it depends on what field you are in, a company I worked for used to supply jaguar land rover, ford and a few tier one suppliers, losing the contract for just one of these companies would almost certainly result in redundancies
