King Richard III. Let's face it, when Shakespeare does a hatchet job, you've no chance of preserving a good reputation. But, no, I can't think of any others than Savile. Plenty of people have had their high standing somewhat reduced by some posthumous discoveries about them, but not completely demolished.

Profumo's reputation recovered quite well, didn't it?

It did. He was economical with the truth in the Commons and had an eye for a pretty girl.
Not the worse of sins, I'd say.

He may well have gone on to do good works, but his political career was finished. It was hardly a small matter.

why do men do such things, well she was a good looking woman, Christine Keeler that is, a good time girl by all accounts, and not one to stick with one chap, he was a bloody fool. The scandal must have crushed his wife.

Profumo's reputation wasn't demolished after his death, that happened while he was alive. In fact his reputation had recovered somewhat as he went quietly out of the public eye and proceeded to do good works for the rest of his life. I would say he was a good example of how to act under such circumstances. Pity other disgraced people didn't follow his example.

ok so Profumo went on to have a better life, contribute, it doesn't change the fact he made a massive mistake, and it did cost him his career.
