I'm 8 months into a 24 month contract and am looking to finish early. I'm due for a business review and am planning to give my notice in during the meeting. I'm not sure whether to do the update presentation, highlighting the challenges/issues and concluding with me not being part of the future strategy or just say that I'm going to leave without going through the process of detailing why it's not working out. Appreciate any opinions.
do what is good for you - not so much your employer who will remember you leaving early and not much else. Are they going to listen to someone who says this is the future for you and this is the door I go out of in 5 mins.....
so OK in your new job interview - you are gonna be asked why you left early in the last job - what are you gonna say ? Saying you are nt a team player is NOT gonna get you the new job.
what about .... going to your line manager and saying - I am gonna go do -you want me to do the presentation ?
difficult one - as for Tilly saying employers like feedback, well I have had completely different set of employers....
I think it depends why its not working out.....”I live too far away” “public transport unreliable” “family commitments” “partner relocating” all reasonable.
“I hate working here” “My boss is a ***” “the job stinks” “This company is going down the tubes” not so much
I would let them know separately, probably before the presentation, that you are handing your notice in, then ask them whether they still want you to do the presentation. If they want to discuss your reasons I think that's better done in separate conversation rather than as part of a formal presentation. As others have said you need to think about how to answer questions about your reasons for leaving- both from this employer and potential new employers
