For Sqad - Update On Daughter.
7 Answers
Sqad, a call came in this pm for my daughter from her GP - bloods have confirmed Lyme's and the Borrelia burgdorferi strain, an American one, so likely the source was one of the Houston floodwaters, the banks of the Austin canal in walking her dog or even the flight to Israel, as the doc has suggested.
Next stage, more stool/pee/blood to determine the extent and to fine-tune antibiotics...her chiro doctor doesn't think it is in her CNS....however, talk about an eff-up of diagnosis in the gastric going back, never mind two of them calling her crazy (in public as in a 4 bed ward) and suffering from Munchhausen's,
It was by chance a female doc in the sexual unit who had worked at the School of Trop Med in London and worked in Israel who diagnosed it from a nasty rash across her mons, her records from Gastric in December and the photo of the rash on her legs - not sure if I shared that......and I have called her late this afternoon to thank her and confirm her diagnosis.
However, despite the Gastric ....s as that is how I feel about them owing to their arrogance and even misoginy) we have confirmation (phew) and can move on.....Just google Tia Poore if you want a story - and they even removed a healthy appendix from a 19 year old girl..,,,,,it's an appalling story and reflective of why Treliske is under direct Govt. control at the moment - and still deemed as unsatisfactory yesterday. I can't fault the HUB, the Acute and the Mr. Cardio who came around on a quality control trip to the gastrics and bolllocked them for not even having given an ultrascan or bloods, the dtc-d having been in hossie for 3 days with suspected pneumonia and a kidney infection, the consequence of Lyme's on her immuno-system.

In no way will i critisise the delay in diagnosis as "there by the grace of God go I". it is not a diagnosis that immediately comes to mind.
yes , standard of NHS care varies nationwide, on of the problems of state controlled medicine in the UK.
Again, thanks for the update and she should start now to pick up/

sure isnt - only heard of one other case - which took years to diagnose - It isnt Lyme as in Lyme Regis but Lyme, New England - and I thought it was tick-borne. Oh well
Lucky there was someone there with DTM&H
( course fee in London is £6500 with about £10 000 living costs - to be paid by the punter of course. Nice course tho)

To the best of my knowledge Lyme's disease is now known to be present in the UK and has been for quite a few years. Therefore, if someone asks if it has been ruled out I would join you in condemning a refusal to look for it - crass arrogance I would call it. But all sorts can be expected from the profession which issues indigestion tablets to an 80 year old displaying classic heart attack symptoms. Sadly, the UK's health care system scores rather poorly in international comparisons of performance in effectiveness - whether that is down to state ownership I wouldn't presume to be qualified to judge but I rather think the state is not much involved in diagnostic or treatment decisions. My assumption would be that the mental state (incl. "attitude") of the individual making the decisions is overwhelmingly the driver, not what the top end of a long chain of bosses is up to or politics in general. Unfortunately, Lyme's is (sometimes/often ?) a lingering malady - I have a relative who had not truly recovered years after falling ill even though, being in the USA, she was diagnosed within days.
