I am in total agreement with this ban in Wales. I find it very intimidating with beggars sitting beside cash machines and I know other people do, What do other Abers think?

It's intimidation just being there. Some may opt for the inconvenience of having to find another hole-in-the-wall. Seems reasonable to tolerate begging elsewhere but not where folk are going to be psychologically vulnerable. People should be able to give if they wish, but not made to feel guilt ridden and obliged.

I agree. I also find it uncomfortable passing one who sits outside my local shop. He is always pleasant but I don't half feel guilty about making eye contact as I waltz out with a bottle of wine or some bananas. I will not give money as I know so many just use it to feed a habit. To be fair mine just seems to eat dozens of packets of biscuits and but i did see getting into a minicab the other night!
There seem so many beggars/people sleeping rough nowadays- I am sure the official figures are massive underestimates

Whilst I agree it is intimidating, I am not sure how you would enforce a ban.
People are entitled to use the streets, which means they can stop where ever they like. Begging is an offence, and the police can act, but rarely do.

Tora no I am not easy to intimidate I have lived in big cities all my life I would have thought as a woman on your own at night it would have been intimidating

I think it's unlikely to be workable. A 10 metre ban would be very difficult to enforce. Would police use tape measures and maybe foam like referees use to mark out 10 yards? The police have other priorities

My wife was in the centre of Bristol early one morning on her way to work and was at the cashpoint and within secs she had 3 beggars around her asking for money, in no uncertain terms she told them to "go forth".

Many of the beggars have homes to go to, to count their takings.
Some even have cars parked in nearby streets.

Fiction Factory's one doesn't have a car. Hence the minicab to get home.

Unenforceable, but I would like to see “exclusion zones” around cashpoints. Beggars may take you for a few quid but thieves will empty your account.

I don't find it intimidating but like FF it can make me feel bad. Bad for taking money out and if they are sitting outside the shop bad for walking past them with a bag full of food.

I've never seen a beggar in my local town - but I would find it intimidating.

Unless there are some very generous people around prepared to part with at least a tenner, I can't see them making much sitting outside ATMs.

Every town I go to seems to have them now- well beggars or people sleeping on the streets. And it's the same in the US and in Europe
