Something popped up on my FB feed about why us Stokies use the term 'duck' as a term of affection when interacting with others (usually females).
Ive used the word 'duck' when dealing with non-Stokies and got looked at like ive got 2 heads...so obviously not a recognised nationwide term!!

Just wondering about your own terms of endearment from your own parts of the UK?
Genuinely curious,
Ta ducks!

Anyone use 'shug'? or is that a Stokie term as well?
Mainly 'love' here, some still use 'cocker' as a male greeting.
Shug is the name used in Scotland for anyone called Hugh.
Maid. My Grandfather and mum said Duck as well - they were from London.
Hen as in "are you OK hen" is used in Scotland when addressing women. Not sure if the whole country but certainly on the east coast.
Can't stand "love" "honey" "duck"....bloody awful terms.
I use....."my love or my dear"....for the women.
For men....their christian names.

Can't stand "hun" either.
“Alright our kid”
“Alright cock”
My late parents used "me old flower" - picked it up from some friends from Birmingham.

I use “Alright darlin”
My dad used to call me a tyke. He was from Stoke on Trent. I don't know what is means. People here say ' loverrr'. This is Devon.

Vicky McClure, was drinking out of a mug in her dementia choir programme. Written on the side of the mug was 'Eh up duck' and she's from Nottingham.

I once had a GF from Glasgow who used that term...used to drive me crackers when she called female Stokies 'hen'. Female Stokies are *DUCKS* not HENS!!!
I think age comes into it a lot
Tyke means naughty boy/girl, as in, 'You little tyke!' when you've done something mischievous.

'Tyke'
Is that a Stokie word then?
Thought it was universal!

My grandma used to call me a little tyke when I was being cheeky.
