Reed beds a few miles from me went on fire - apparently someone decided to ignore lockdown and had a BBQ!! Fire rages for hours and spread quickly as it has been so dry. Four fire engines plus a helicopter dropping water have eventually managed to put it out. This is a major conservation nesting area and many chicks and eggs will have been lost. Friend said she heard a very distressed heron who no doubt has lost her chicks. When will people ever learn, so sad.
Why can't they hold their family barbecue in their own family back garden ? And if they don't have one then they haven't provided barbecue facilities for themselves and ought not to holding one. Not setting the countryside aflame is a basic responsibility. If they have no countryfolk skills they should stay away until they've a guide to instruct them. Idiots.
