If it was said in a simple way without any intention to refer to homosexuality, then don't worry. If it was meant to refer to homosexuality then you must know why you used the term. If you were intending to denigrate homosexuals then that's not polite. If you were just using a phrase that your gang used without meaning any offence, then that's alright. I think that what you should do is ask yourself if you said something that might be hurtful to others. If it was, then just be more thoughtful in future.
Most of the people on this website, Ugh69, are Brits "of mature years", whom I suspect have simply never heard of the word you mention. (I suspect that might be more commonly heard among younger people and/or Americans).

However I doubt that you've caused anyone offence. It's probably akin to when I first started working alongside blind people. I always wanted to kick myself when I said something like "Do you see what I mean?" or "I'll be seeing you later", as I thought that my 'sight' references were inappropriate. I quickly learned though that they were nothing or the sort; I suspect that you're similarly being edgy about the use of certain words but without any reason at all.

I have a nephew who is spina bifida and confined to a wheelchair.
He constantly tells me jokes about cripples etc.
Once had a black friend who constantly told racist jokes (against his own kind)
Im an ex-con
but I dont find jokes about prison or prisoners offensive.
Neither do I find jokes about mental patients offensive, (as a former resident of a psychiatric ward)
Neither do I find jokes about been white, coming from Stoke on Trent, or been male offensive.
Some people just need to get a life....
