With 5 days until the second round of the French presidential election, the incumbent holds an 8 point lead in the poll of polls, but we all know who the Kremlin would prefer to see in the Elsyee Palace.
(although if the Chancellor of Austria is to be believed, there's a chance Putin himself might not know there IS an election :-))

No one is surprised that the Kremlin create fake news to interfere with elections in democratic countries, they have done it before.
This wasn’t a very clever fake. I doubt anyone would be taken in by it.

I'm not sure I trust a news source which claims they will 'take a look at the forensics of a fake news story.' when they miss-spell 'converge'.

I did wonder if one reason Macron was phoning Putin so much was because Putin kept saying "ring me back tomorrow" to distract him from campaigning (!)

Yep. A forensic examination of something demands attention to the utmost detail. Spelling a word wrong somewhat undermines this.
