Directions

A Swiss man, looking for directions, pulls up at a bus stop where two Englishmen are waiting.

" Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?" he says

The two Englishmen just stare at him.

" Excusez-moi, parlez vous Francais?"

The two continue to stare.

"Parlate Italiano?" No response.

"Hablan ustedes Espanol?" Still nothing.

The Swiss man drives of, extremely disgusted.

The first Englishman turns to the second and says, " You know Giles, maybe we should learn a foreign language...."

"Why?" says the other. "That chappie knew four and it didn't do him any good."

"Precisely."

Reminds me of going to Scotland and asking directions...
I did get a long convoluted reply though not aggressive . ***?
So I asked "Do you not speak English" and moved on.

We were checking into a motel in the SW of the USA and after the young woman on reception seemed not to understand us the other receptionist asked her what the problem was, 'I think they don't speak English'. We explained to her that the problem seemed to be that we did speak English.
