The Conservatives Failed Immigration Policies
For 12 years the Conservatives have pledged to get immigration down to the tens of thousands. The Home Secretary repeated that pledge at this years Conservative Party Conference. So it must be deeply embarrassing for the Government and its supporters to see todays ONS immigration figure of over 500,000 net immigration in 12 months.
They have repeatedly failed again and again. Even Brexit has proved to be a false hope.
// Net migration to the UK has reached a record level of 504,000.
Asylum applications are at their highest for 32 years.
The new net migration figure released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) is an increase of 331,000 in a single year and is at least 400,000 more than the home secretary, Suella Braverman, is aiming for. //

Why is it?
How can this country plan anything - finances, services, healthcare, infrastructure - when it has no idea how many people are coming here and half a million (net) pitch up?
We have eight million people of working age sitting at home doing nothing (and before you suggest it, they are not all ill or caring for somebody else). Yet we find it necessary to import people to fill vacancies.
Where is the accommodation for an annual influx of half a million people to come from (bearing in mind that most of them will want to live in or near to cities or large towns)?
This country needs to radically re-think its strategy regarding immigration because most public services (and many private ones) do not work properly as it is and to expect them to cope with half a million extra people in a year is just plainly irresponsible.

"they are not all ill or caring for somebody else"
i asked how you knew this on another thread and it turned out you didn't have any proof....
the promise was irresponsible because they refuse to categorise students as separate from other immigrants and foreign students are hugely important to funding our universities.... the vast majority do not stay on after their courses are over. students alone number hundreds of thousands
it is also irresponsible because the uk-born population is ageing quite rapidly.

OK. I know of six people of working age who are not working. None of them is ill or caring for somebody else. Anecdotal, I know, but I doubt I'm alone. Let's put it like this: do you believe that all the eight million-odd people of working age who are not working are unable to do so?

how do you know that they are not ill?
"do you believe that all the eight million-odd people of working age who are not working are unable to do so?"
i am not familiar with where this figure comes from... does it include stay at home parents? does it include people with incapacitating mental illnesses? does it include people not currently in work but looking for work? does it include people who choose to retire and live on assets or private pensions?

Because they are personal friends and I know their circumstances. They make no bones about the fact that they simply have no intention of working.
//…does it include stay at home parents? etc.etc.//
I would imagine it includes all those. But all the eight million do not fit into one of those categories. Like my friends, some of them have decided not to work.
This is from an ONS report:
"The biggest reason is that a lot of these people (27%) are students. 26% say they’re economically inactive because they’re too sick (most of whom have a long-term illness). 22% are looking after family or the home. And 13% have taken early retirement. 12% said there was some other reason for their economic inactivity."
So let's just concentrate on that 12% (say, just short of one million). I dare say you will suggest they are all millionaires and have no need to work. I would say you need to wise up. Those 1m people are not ill, not students (and I find the 27% who say they are a bit questionable), not retired and not caring for somebody. And that’s before you examine just how sick those who say they are too sick to work really are.
There is little point in discussing this. I believe that whatever their reasons, it is simply inconceivable that one in five of the working age population is unable to work, and you do not. Until the government gets to the bottom of this they have no right to allow tens of thousands of people who, will all need accommodation and access to already broken public services, to settle here.

so your assuming newjudge that a significant proportion of them 12% are able to work and could work but are choosing not too. So then you got to ask is that because there getting to easy a life on benefits or because they have no skills that employer's want or are they just well off enough from life savings or family wealth etc not to bother with low rate pay jobs or are they just living in the wrong place's but cant afford to move to where the jobs are.
there is an estate nr me, iv been to the local pubs, and i can hear them talking, work errr does not pay m8, lots of erm couples who are not couples claiming benefits, working at the same time, black economy. you know, meet me on the corner ill beep for ya m8, shuuush nice little earner today, free money for gas sparks as well, iv heard them and they make no bones about it, some two cars go abroad on hols.

Yes.
I'm also assuming that quite a large number of people in the other categories into which the 8m fall are also in that position.
The UK is by no means exceptional among European nations in this respect. Only five of the 26 EU nations have a better record. But that's no real endorsement.

"The benefits system is without doubt appallingly abused"
new judge has not been discussing the benefits system he has been discussing working-age people who are not in work... a slightly different subject...
"Because they are personal friends and I know their circumstances."
do you? not everybody chooses to disclose disabilities to their peers. ..or are your friends fortunate enough to be in a position where they have enough assets or savings that they can afford not to work? if the second is true then i cannot imagine why they would or why you would judge them for it.
"I dare say you will suggest they are all millionaires and have no need to work."
i don't know what their reasons are but i am not willing to make assumptions about then with no information... i notice the ONS percentages you have quoted do not include people who are out of work and currently seeking work who would surely be among your 8 million...
