Whatever happened to mint puff candy ? Or even just puff candy come to think of it ? I have recently moved to East Kilbride and took a notion for some one night but when I asked the young boy on the ice cream van if he had any , I may as well have been speaking Swahili , given the strange look he gave me. I'm only 30 but he made me feel soooooo old because he had never heard of it. Mind you he looks like he's just recently out of Pampers ! Please someone agree with me that mint puff candy DID exist or even just that puff candy does. Many thanks x

I have just put mint puff candy up on google and up came The Burns Sweet shop in St Andrews who stock Choc Puff Candy and you can order it on line unless you fancy a trip up to St Andrews yourself.Several other shops came up so see for yourself.Good Luck
I remember this, I want some now. Did'nt it come chocolate coated as well.
For some reason the only place i see it nowadays is in Blackpool (or sometimes at the indoor market) Its still out there (and the pink one aswell) just very rare.

Its still widely available but its called Cinder Toffee in most places. Look for a shop that still sells sweets from the old fashioned jars and you may get lucky

Thank you all so much. You are spot on Frizzytwig - the original and the mint puff candy both came covered in chocolate but the original puff candy tasted much better without the cheap chocolate. The chocolate wasn't the greatest but the lovely mint taste more than made up for it and it just melted in your mouth. I remember it used to be available from certain shops and at the fairground , already bagged but I haven't seen it around for some time now. I can't even remember who made the mint puff candy now. I seem to just be sitting back and watching so many things I used to enjoy in my childhood , disappearing in front of my eyes. I guess I must just be getting old , sigh. From time to time , I contact certain companies of food I miss but I just seem to get the same bland , corporate response every time - bleating on about high production costs , low turnover in sales , a need to refresh their range blah de blah de blah Yawn. Why don't they just give us what we want ? If it ain't broke , don't fix it. I mean , what was wrong with mint Ferrero Rocher ? I think that their marketing directors just get a perverse pleasure out of reeling us in with a delicious new taste , letting us get hooked on it then cruelly ripping it away from us , taunting us in correspondance that we can never have it ever again ! Hey , i'm just cranky because i'm not even eating chocolate just now in a bid to try and be healthy. I slipped a bit tonight by 'borrowing' a few of my daughter's fruit pastilles. She won't be a happy bunny in the morning. I'll have to hope that she doesn't notice before I get the chance to replace them. Hey i'm weak , what can i say !!!
hiya Enigma - hope you get this answer. I got puff candy in my stocking this year. My Fiancee got it at the Parkhead Forge in glasgow. There are 'in shops' that are like stalls and one of them does old fashioned sweeties. Since christmas we have got through three bags of it!! Shocking for the teeth.

Thanks buttons - you're a wee star. I'll take a trip up at the weekend and stock up on some. Do you know if it's just the ordinary puff candy which they do or if you can still get mint puff candy ? Either way , that's me happy now. Lucky you getting some for christmas. That beats strange looking smellies for the bath and granny jumpers hands down. Sadly , I got a few of them. Wanna trade ? Mmm , i'm guessing maybe not ! Thanks for the help though x
hey enigma - i would trade with you but i dont think the empty bags of puff candy are what you are looking for - thats all ive got left. I dont think they had mint stuff, but i could be mistaken. Im so torn when i go there between the puff candy and the white chocolate dazzles (the wee coloured things) i could spend a fortune - oh and gain weight by the plenty!!!

Hi Buttons. Damn shame that. I only I had known about your stash of puff candy I could have exchanged your fiancee my washed out looking granny jumper and strange looking/smelling bath erm , thingies ! (Not quite worked out what they are yet)

White chocolate dazzles ? What are they ? Is that the little white milk chocolate discs which are sprinkled with coloured vermicelli ? I don't recognise the name. I tell you what I don't see anymore - white chocolate mice , skulls with the red liquid , double bubble , bazooka , gobstoppers , jawbreakers - especially the fireball ones etc. What happened to 10p mix ups and penny sweets ? These days the mix ups seem to already be made up.Where's the fun in that ? I used to trot off to the shops with my brother , pocket money in hand and stand over the pick 'n' mix counter in RS McColls for what seemed like hours , carefully deliberating over what was going into my little plastic bag ! Where did my childhood go ? I want it back !!!

IF only i'd known - not I only. All this talk of puff candy is affecting my ability to type correctly !
you are going to be delighted when you get to that shop!!! There is a whole wall for pix n mix - white mice and all!

Let me at it , let me at it !!! I suspect that when hubby and I take the kids they won't even get a look in because we will be running round excitedly filling up on all our childhood faves ! I'll keep you posted on what goodies I get ha ha. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and I won't hold you personally responsible for any weight I gain in the process. Anything I shove in my gob is done by my own free will !!!
hope you found what you were looking for! ive spotted that they do the chocolate covered puff candy too
