Blood Test Result Figures
This has been nagging at me for some time so thought I would ask if anyone could help with an answer. When I have blood tests I always print off the results for my own record purposes. Usually the first figures show the result then in brackets it shows what I have always assumed are what the test should fall into. The last time I had blood tests, some of them were well out of this range but when I asked at my surgery (they were routine ones) I was told they were satisfactory. I am due to have another pile of tests this coming Monday requested by the colorectal nurse as I am still being monitored following bowel cancer (right hemicolectomy). Just curious really

If you notice a big difference in your readings, query it. In any case ask your GP at your next appointment to put your mind at rest
The 'normal ' range is mostly a guide. If a person has a consistently different reading without showing signs of Ill health it may be decided that those results are normal for them. Also some conditions can affect blood results with little or no effect so a wider range of acceptable figures can be assigned.
I find my blood test results either on the NHS app or my GP's website. I can print them off from the websites. I can understand the figures in brackets after the actual blood test result can be "a guide" but when the path lab mark various results as "above high reference limit" or "below low reference limit" (on some) & I am told the results are satisfactory, it can be confusing. I have spoken to a GP in the past but just told there is nothing to be concerned about. I have regular blood tests as requested by my colorectal nurse & the last Carcinoembryonic Antigen test says the result should be 5 or under. Mine returned last time (June 2024) as 7 ug/L. I am having blood tests this coming Monday as requested by my bowel cancer nurse so it will be interesting to see the results of them
Some time ago I became very anxious one night when my pulse rate was in the upper 80s while I was resting in bed. When I mentioned it to the Practice Nurse I included the fact that I had indigestion at the time and she adevised me that that was the reason. So I guess one has to be very careful there aren't temporary effects present when measurements are taken.
