Job Interview

OK, here's the picture. An employment agency called me at the beginning of last week to tell there is a job available with a rival Company that is a step up from what I am doing right now. I asked how they got my number as I hadn't registered with them (or any other agency for that matter) and they told my that a guy who used to work with me at my current Company had recommended me (which was nice!). Anyway, I didn't give it any other thought until I received a phone call half an hour ago telling me they would like to interview me at the end of next week, now I'm scared! I am normally a confident person and regularly meet with clients, give presentations, contract negotiation etc. but in those situations I have the back up of my colleagues.

The job I am going for is brilliant and between �10 and �30k more than what I am earning at the moment (!!) so I really need to impress these guys. I am enlisting you guys to help me (if you don't mind) think up decent questions for me to ask next week. Asking what they do etc. is pointless as they are in the same business as my current employers, and no doubt all that will be covered when they tell me "about the job" at the beginning of the interview.

Please help - I'm scared!

I was in almost exactly the same position about 6 months ago. An agency told me they were looking for someone like me (flattering at the time) and it was with a rival company. I took the leap and went for it and it was the best thing I've done in my short career. The interview was fairly tough but you have to remember, if they've contacted you for an interview then as long as you don't stuff up and keep a cool head in the interview you've basically got the job.

The hardest bit for me was telling the boss that I was leaving and where I was going...that was so tough. If and when you get the job you have to walk into your boss's office with your mind made up and tell them 'i''ve made my mind up and I'm leaving' otherwise they may well try to offer you more money which will only make it more difficult for you.

Suitable questions may be;

What is expected of me? Is there potential for me to grow within the company? What are the company's long and short term plans? Other benefits etc?
