When did you figure things out?
I know I am young still 23 in a couple of months, but I often wonder what I want to do with my life and I worry a little that I don't know. Rationally I know I have my whole life ahead of me and it will work itself out but I worry I am going to miss out on something at times. I was just wondering when did your life begin to fall into place when did you decide your life would include your career, your kids, your marriage or all three or neither?
Are you still trying to figure it out at 30/40/50 years old? Have you always known what you wanted to do and are living 'the dream' so to speak.
Im interested because every one I know including my 30 year old b/f doesnt have much clue in what they want from life and it seems that ambition and dreams have either fallen by the wayside or they are not that urgent these days?

You're already a wise person to be asking this question now and that is altogether a great thing. I used to think the oldies were behind the times, what did they know about life etc but later on you realise when you're getting to the oldies stage , you do know by expereince many things and you look at things at various angles. Don't shrug off what older people have to say, they're speaking by experience and if you've had grandparents/great-grandparents living through wars it was no mean task for them.
Dreams are what life is made of. No matter what you want to do in life you can do it. Get out there and do it and having a family is one of them.
Laughter is the essence of happiness
Everything gradually falls into place by itself. I didn't know what i wanted to do for a career til i was 24, although some of my older friends still aren't sure their job is what they want to do forever, but you can change careers if you don't pick the right one first time. It's best to choose something you're really interested in and a job you're going to enjoy, rather than one you're just doing to pay the bills but hate, so think about what kind of things interest you the most and give them a try.
As for marriage and kids, i think that naturally comes along too. I'm 25 and i worry about it sometimes (will i still be with my bf in 5 years time or will i be single and really wanting to find someone and start a family) but i'm sure everything will work itself out in the end.
I also really want to go travelling which is something i don't want to miss out on, but if don't go in the near future i'll make sure i go when i'm older.
I think that everything does eventually fall into place and you'll eventually find your career, etc. Just make sure you do the things you want to do!
Don't forget the saying "Life is what happens to you while you are making other plans"
Try to get enjoyment or satisfaction out of everything you do, but remember that life can chuck some strange things at you at times, and you will have to deal with it the best you can.
I am in my 60s and still haven't got it right yet, but life is still fun.
Try to find somethimg to be happy about every day and by all means make plans but don't set them in stone. My great aunt always says' what's for you will not go by you'
By all means try to pick a direction, but be flexible about your route. Be open to opportunity. Then try to set aside some cash for a ' Go to Heck fund' for the days when you realise you have been sucked off course, allows you time to reset your moral compass ... or buy time while you want to reasses your situation, and change direction. It's allowed! Some of the best and most interesting people I know are not fixed on a particular set of outcomes.
