I can remember a clown welcoming the kids at a children's party when I was only 5. I refused to go to the party. I also hate those people with masks that walk about on stilts at carnivals, etc, and worse of all is a human body with an animal head - hence I find Rupert Bear disturbing. No hope for me I fear.
I don't know what it is about but they are spooky, I haven't seen 'It' but I generally just don't like it when people cover their faces be it with a mask or paint.
When I was about 11 I was on ho,iday and they one of those street artists who follows you and mimics everything you do and it followed me - I was terrified! He had a hite painted pace.
And, like pixi, I don't like ventriloquists and I also don't like those people that stand still for ages. We have this one in the City a lot. I walk the long way round if I know he is there:

I so wish I hadn't clicked on that link....
Clowns don't tend to scare me but Pennywise is evil! I have a friend who is petrified of clowns, she thinks it stems from the time when she was little & went to the circus ~ a clown on stilts came up to her and bent down to give her a balloon (cue big grin).
Funnily enough balloons don't scare her but they do scare her daughter!
I don't like clowns either... or anyone dressed up for that matter, I'm a complete mess when there's a person dressed up as a mascot or .....for example, Disney... waaaaah! I was shaking so much :( I don't know why it scares me, I know that inside those costumes there's a regular person just doing their job entertaining people but it really freaks me out.
anyone dares to take the proverbial, I'll hunt you down! :P
