this morning i was making myself a sausage sandwich for breakfast, and cleaning up while the sausages where grilling. i grabbed a plate from the top of the grill - completely forgetting that the damn grill was on. now my fingers hurt. most of them are fine, but the pad of my little finger has a white patch on it.

not only am i embarrassed about doing something so sodding stupid in the first place, im also embarrassed about having to ask for help. i cant remember ever having burned myself before, although i'm sure i have. what do i do? i've been running it under cold water for about half an hour.

Ah dont be, I burn myself all the time accidently touching the top of the oven in our halls, I put it down to bad concentration and stuff.

Think thats all you can do, it will go through the whole swelling and looking horrible phase, but cold water, creama and a plaster is all you can do i think.
I'm sure I have heard people puting toothpaste on burns, might be worth a try.
If you can get hold of some aloe vera gel, from a chemist or health food shop, it is excellent for soothing burns of any kind
I poured a kettle full of boiling water over myself.........It hurt
We've all done it Immi, You did the right thing with the cold water, yes toothpaste is cooling and aloe vera and also cold wet tissue or kitchen roll wrapped aroung your finger will help.
Don't be embarrassed! I used a camping stove at a festival in the summer (one of the wee gas canister ones with the tree metal prongs to balance your pot on). The contents of the pan were good and hot, I poured it onto the plates, then lifted the camping stove by one of the 3 metal prongs, to move it to a safe place to cool down. The thing was white hot, stuck to my thumb and forefinger, and I had to go to the St John's ambulance tent to have it looked at. And I was sniffling with the pain. What a wally!

I think the only thing it needs is air and time.
If you are prone to such accidents get an Aloe Vera plant. Keep it in a pot in the kitchen. When you burn yourself take one of the fleshy leaves, cut of the little spikes, open up the leaf and apply the inside of it to the burn. It works well.
