bad ears

my dog has really bad ears, the are sore all the time hes always shaking his head and cry's if there touched, he has been to the Vet and had loads of tests but they have come back with no answers apart from its his food, we have tried him on all types of allergy foods but nothing works, we cant get drops into his ears as he is a big dog and the vet tried steriod plugs but they dont work can you help

has the vet had a 'good' luck inside his ears - ie: by sedating him? I had a dog with bad ears and he had a polyp in there - as he was around 10 years old when they found it, I didnt want him operated on, and as long as I kept them clean they were OK. I have found Earex from the chemist to be better than anything you can get from the vet, and much cheaper (I think its a couple of quid). They usually don't mind it too much as it only takes a couple of small drops and it is very soothing.

But if you cannot get drops in his ears it is going to be VERY difficult.

Believe me, I understand totally where you are coming from - I have a dog similar size to yours (if not larger) and he will not let me do anything to him, if I even start to look at a cut or anything I get woofed at! (and if I persist he gets worse!). Even putting Spot on flea treatment on him is virtually impossible and involves me taking it out on a walk and putting it on when he is distracted by another dog or something!

Would he allow you to put ear drops in while outside on a walk (more distractions to take his mind off you)?

Sometimes it works if you massage gently under the ear first (they usually like that) and warm the bottle in your hand (that way the drops are at blood temperature and not cold going into the ear).

Hi thanks for the advise yes the Vet has Sedated him and everything took swobs and sent them away but they cant find anything yes he also had things put in his ear by the vert that let of drops daily saves putting drops in ourselves but that didnt work either,

I just wonder if he chews his feet???????? etc,if you cant pinpoint it to anything in particular then i would be putting him on a hypoallergenic food and keeping him on it,no treats other than ........also hypo all.
Do you think it could be your wash/powder/liq??????just a stab in the dark.We had a GSD who was allergic to sand/grass and it took months to work that one out aswell.Hope you get him sorted.Regards
