You are probably gaining muscle at the same time as you are losing fat. Don't give up.x

I was like you about a year ago, until I hired myself a personal trainer through http://www.motivatept.co.uk/

My trainer put together a program that was more varied than the one I was using at the gym. I saw better results in four weeks, then the previous 6 months training by myself at the local gym. My trainer says that most people at gyms are doing the wrong exercises and are often training ineffectively for their chosen goals. Exercise should be challenging but if you're not seeing ANY results then of course, you need to reconsider what you're doing or how you're doing it! You could try and ask one of the instructors to measure your body fat. My trainer does this regularly so I know where I'm losing and also body measurements with a tape measure.

I cancelled my gym membership in September 2007 and have never looked back. Good Luck!

My experience is the same as yours dizydosydoll, and its really disheartening, but from next week I'm also going to be seeing a personal trainer for 1 hour a week, so perhaps I'll start to see results.
Hi don’t mean to be funny or nasty but here are the simple facts.

To loose weight you have to burn more calories than you take in!

Some times I see people in the gym and they thing that just by being in the building they are getting fit. It doesn’t work by osmosis. If your in the gym for and hour but only working for 10 mins then that still just 10 mins.

Not saying this is you but you should really be aiming to be exercising for about an hour, lots of aerobic like swimming, walking, running etc and some light weights to after all muscle burns calories.

Hi Oggy,

When im in the gym i do 30 mins on the crosser then 15 on the tread and 15 on the bike, ive not started to use the weights as yet, if i do a class i do it for the length of the class which is about 50 mins, i cant see how you can go to the gym and only do 10 mins lol, i think maybe i need to increase to maybe 1 30 hrs or maybe 2
Muscle weighs more than fat so you are toning down and building muscles. Don't worry about loosing weight, it will come off the places where you don't want it.
Hi, I have been reading up a lot on this recently as all my work mates and friends have joined the local gym and they usually go 5 times a week, yet they too haven't noticed a weight loss. I have read that rather than doing 30 mins on the treadmill at your usual speed, you should do 2 mins on a high incline and fast, then 4 mins walking pace (flat). Repeat this for about 10 to 15 mins and the results should become clear very soon. Also you don't need to diet to lose weight, just don't skip breakfast, eat every 3 hours, and eat foods that are not processed. I have just been following the 'not eating processed' and eating a good snack every 3 hours and I have lost 1/2 stone in 2 weeks and I never feel hungry. Will start the exercise soon, but I am a bit of a couch potato!
Hope this helps
