Dolphins

When people go fishing for tuna, they sometimes catch dolphins. Dolphins seem to have a lovely smile, but are still only animals. OK, McD's do not do dolphin burgers, but that is only because it would be bad PR.
Lots of us eat pork, but pigs are quite intelligent, so why the big concern over dolphins ?

Pigs are bred especially for the meat market and if there is a shortage we simply breed some more. Dolphins are wild animals and can not be bred in captivity to maintain the present captive stock, let alone extra ones for food. Most dolphin species are in decline and a few are endangered.
Now, if you were to suggest politicianburgers you might get a more positive response.

"Only animals" says it all that doesn't it.
Dolphins, albatrosses, badgers, you name it, anything that gets in the way of humanities greed for resources and it's "too bad, so long suckers" normally.
Thankfully the environmental movement is getting stronger and stronger and can step in and help some species.

Cross questioning with another subject on this site - how many people here think abortion is alright at some stage, but doing horrid things to animals isn't ?
I do not fancy knocking off all the dolphins for the reasons Wildwood gave, but if absolutely necessary and in extrememe circumstances would eat it, but have never been in a position where it has been necessary.
I cannot agree with environmentalists who attack people to protect animals ( ok, wrestling a bit to prove a point would be ok, but weapons, blunt instruments and kicks to squishy bits are going a bit far).
Animals do not have the same rights as people.
