with 100 trees around a woodpecker has decided to peck on the side of my wooden house...my question is why?...and how can i stop him from doing it without using a bb rifle
Generally woodies prefer dead wood as that is more likely to contain grubs etc. It is also easier for them to make a nestinghole.
You could try going outside with a burning newspaper when you hear it pecking, that scares the *ahem* out of them. Or you may want to hang a white bedsheet on the side of the house for a day or two, that makes them think 'what the....'.
I'm sure someone else will have a better idea.
when we lived in the US, the whole house that we lived in was wooden apart from the fireplace and chimney which were brick and steel respectively....so what does dumb woody choose to peck? yes you got it, the whole house used to ring like a bell :(
