My friend is about to get his house repossessed. He's desperate and willing to become a squatter to at least have somewhere to live. What are his 'squatters rights'?

This right, if it exists, is in respect of claiming land (and maybe a building as well if there is one) when one has resided in it for a long period within the permission of the legal owner. The period of time is in excess of 10 years above such a claim could even start.
