It's been the same way at motorway service stations for decades, they have no reason to offer any discounts or reductions as if one person doesn't pay it the next will pay. The petrol prices always are the same, alot higher than your local garage, but again, they know you have to pay it, some of those stations give the companies their biggest margin which they then take profit from to support their buisinesses in town centres.
How much did they charge you to park and get out of the car for a walk around?
How much did they charge you to use the loos?
The running costs on these service stations are astronomical, and they are not allowed to charge for use of toilet facilities. The water rates and toilet paper costs alone are sky high.

You have a point H C but this is outrageous. They have you queueing for ages as well whilst two half wits try to serve. (probably on min wage!!)

I don't know which motorway service stations Dot is getting her fuel from but they must be different from the ones I use. Many years ago petrol at motorway services used to cost at least 10% more than elsewhere, but most of the ones I use nowadays charge the same price per litre as Asda and Tesco do (which is a great deal cheaper than some of the local garages here in Suffolk, which currently charge over £1.30 per litre).
Motorway service areas have to pay megabucks to the Government for the right to operate the facilities, so it's unsurprising that they pass their costs on to their customers.

£1.30!!!!! I've just passed one selling it at 120.9, the texaco on the far side of town, then i passed the texaco this side of town and it was 119.9, then the Total up the road was £119.9 but the shell round the corner was 116.9 so i filled up there and used my lotalty card.
I guess where there are fewer garages and where they are out in the stics they have to charge more as it is further for the tanker to go to fill their site tanks.

It depends where you go, Mollykins.
Around Ipswich the price is still generally below £1.20 but even Tesco at Stowmarket (just down the road from Ipswich) is 3p per litre dearer than the Tesco at Copdock Mill, on the edge of Ipswich. Local garages (such as Riddelsdell Brothers in Boxford) are charging over £1.30 per litre.
