broken elbow

Hello, i was knocked off my bike the other night and have broken my elbow( the ulna bit) i have only been put in a sling untill my fracture clinic on wed but i am in servere pain can anyone give me any idea as to what to expect treatment wise as the pain is really starting to get me down, thanks

For the pain....Ibuprofen 600mgms up to three times a day.

Likely treatment........plaster cast for 6-8 weeks.

ouch! i fractured my upper radius a few years ago and was only put in a sling as they said i would have to kep it moving to prevent it from seizing up. OMG it was so painful, they gave me painkillers but imafraid i was in pain for a number of weeks really. just rest it as much as poss i would say and definatley NO sudden movements, that is just unbearable

A mate of mine fell over and broke both elbows, he quickly found out who is friends are lol.

How true what everton says, my son ripped the nerves of his right arm out of his shoulder many years ago due to a accident with his motorcycle, and only one `friend` out of many, bothered to keep in touch with him. `Friends? are very few and far between when you need them.

Thanks all for the info and i do hope im not in plaster for that long sqad as that will put a right dampner on my trip to cuba in 4 weeks

Fly boy......perhaps I was a bit OTT depends upon the degree of fracture and exact site.

OK...for Cuba........4-6 weeks and bring me back a Cohiba.

Broke my upper arm and very painful never forget the pain - however both Spanish and when I got home from Spain just put on a sling - nothing but it was for 6 weeks-even now I get pain - hope you get to Cuba - if you are only sight-seeing etc you will be ok but if you are going to be active that will be a hard one.

sorry meant to say both Spanish clinics and British hospital just kept in a sling for 6 weeks and then told me to throw it away - I held on it as throughout different times I could get ease but did get ease when I used the sling
