I cringe when sports folk like John Inverdale talk about things being 'key' to a match or whatever. I cringe when people refer to dancing as 'throwing some shapes'. What modern phrases make you cringe?
Carrust, I too hate "absolutely" instead of yes. I was listening to a short radio interview which was about 90 seconds and in that time counted 17 absolutely's
Not a cringeworthy phrase as such, but heard this recently :-
In the first leg of the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Barcelona,Pepe was sent off.During the second half, when Barcelona began to dominate against 10 men,the commentator said "The missing player is now clearly visible" Definitely one for future Colemanballs !
'Not on my watch' is something I'm used to as my husband often uses it having been in the navy. It does grate when used by someone who has never taken the queen's shilling
Too much information - very condescending
It tick`s all the boxes - irritating TV speak
Now we`re cooking with gas - where did that ridiculous expression come from?
