Surely the point is that when quiz answers are given away freely on sites like this then it is highly likely that there will be far more people getting a 100% score than on a quiz with a ‘no asking’ rule. Hence such a quiz is far more likely to become a lottery than one with a ‘no asking’ rule. And while some people will say they don’t buy ‘no asking’...

quizmouse - You advertise a quiz on a Question and Answer site and then make a statement like that.
Here is another statement from AB Editorial Team - In Quizzes and Puzzles we occasionally have users decrying the posting of questions from a Quiz which has not been out very long or where the setter has asked those entering not to use site such as this. It is "dishonourable" to go against the wishes of the setter. However, we will not remove the question. This is a Q&A site after all. It is suggested that those wishing not to know the answer simply do not read the question. If you feel a user is a serial transgressor it may be worth linking to this post so they can get a grip on the nuances of the site. Many of these users may be new – so give them a chance.
Makes sense doesn't it?

This problem crops up from time to time and really I get rather fed up of trying to please everyone. However, for those who take the attitude that this is a question and answer site, which I see their point, and appreciate that they wont be buying this quiz, thats absolutely fine by me you are entitled to your opinion of course. But for others, like smouse, pulse and mamyalynne, and hundreds of others who tire of repeatedly trying to complete these quizzes without the help of everyone on here, they express their appreciation of the no asking request each time they send back their sheets. If people constantly give out answers the competition just becomes a draw and slightly pointless. I tried asking politely for people to wait until nearer the cut off date to ask for clues etc but this did not work, so this seems the best option, it seems to suit most of the regular, quizzers. The old saying .....you cant please all of the people all of the time....springs to mind. So, for the minority of those who wont therefore participate, sorry folks, but there are loads of others for you to support. My charity needs the money badly and if me adding the request keeps others coming back for more, thats what I feel I must consider. If its against the rules of this forum, then I apologise, and will review it in the future.

Well if you don’t impose your silly ‘rule’, surely your charity will benefit even more.
///If people constantly give out answers the competition just becomes a draw and slightly pointless///
But it IS a draw isn’t it – involving those with the most correct answers?

This does not appear in the forum’s rules – quoted above is an Editorial ‘take’ on the issue; a policy which differs from yours.
Good luck quizmouse.

The same request was asked on this quiz and as I said earlier when someone did ask from a previous quiz by this setter the question was removed so there is no consistency and it isnt fair to single out quizmouse

I agree with all the points raised by Sir.prize. I enjoy doing the quizzes but I will not be bullied into not asking questions if I want to especially by people who use the answerbank to get people to buy the quiizzes and I include all quiz setters not just quizmouse. If you do not want to see the answers you do not need to go into the question so you will not see the answers. All quizzes are down to a draw after all. I will help charities as much as I can but I will not be buying any quizzes bullying me into not asking questions on a question and answer site and none of my friends will be either so the charities will lose out.

Hence such a quiz is far more likely to become a lottery than one with a ‘no asking’ rule. And while some people will say they don’t buy ‘no asking’ quizzes there are other people who don’t buy quizzes that get asked to death on sites like this precisely because they are effectively lotteries.
Incidentally, I don’t understand the logic of not buying quizzes with a ‘no asking’ rule. There’s no rule that says every question in a quiz must be answered. So people can support the charity and send in their answer sheets with blanks if necessary. Or is the real reason because they know they are unlikely to win any prize in such circumstances?

Well, as expected, there are two differing opinions. If this is a Q&A site people should be allowed to ask any reasonable question. In the past quiz setters have asked for no answers until nearer the closing date of a quiz - this was bad enough. But to say "STRICTLY no asking" is beyond acceptable on this site in my opinion. If the "no asking" people want to do the quiz without help then can someone please explain why you click through to find out what's being asked or answered? If I buy a quiz the challenge for me is to finish it. The setter has already been paid for my entry and I would like to be "in the draw" as a winner - that's all part of the fun! I don't enter ONLY to win but after spending a lot of time on some quizzes I like to stand a chance of winning a prize!
"Question Author
And sorry its not available by email, though not sure why this is such a problem, you would still need to send payment via post..."
Just for info - I only do quizzes that are available via email and I send payment with the entry. I can't see the point in wasting an envelope and stamp requesting the quiz, then the setter has to waste another envelope and stamp (or I have to provide it) to send me the quiz, and then there's another envelope and stamp required to send the quiz in. If the quiz is emailed to me I get it straight away (usually the same day I request it).
So it's quicker and cheaper all round. Therefore I only consider quizzes that are available this way and I would guess that a lot of people feel the same. I think that quizzes that are only available by post probably lose out on a lot of entries.

There is an alternative to get quizzes without postage and that is to email via paypal as I do. I believe I saw an increase in sales by offering this option. You don't have to be a member of paypal and your details are secure as only paypal have them. I only have the name and address of the applicant plus an email address to forward the quiz. Can be returned by email also.
Quiz setters in general prefer to see the money upfront so if someone doesn't like the quiz or misses the closing date and doesn't return, the charity doesn't lose out so therefore paypal works for both the charity and the applicant. Just my personal point of view.

Thank you all for the above comments which of course are all very valid. As I have said everyone has their own views on this subject. I still feel however, that the majority of those who buy these type of quizzes to try to keep their self amused and their brains active!! prefer that the answers are not put on sites like these and many others. I have been doing these quizzes for many years as have others, I know, and have experienced problems in the past where I have started a 'new quiz' advertised on here, possibly only for a week or so, and then someone has asked many questions and been given the answers, and then others have said its pointless sending for it as most of the answers have been given already, therefore sales are ruined.
Many of those who regularly send for these quizzes are more than happy to return their sheet with a few blank spaces, and take their chance on winning, therefore very rarely is the result a lottery.
But like I said it is up to the individual to decide, which they do, whether they take part or not, and many here have made it clear that they will not take part, because of the ruling - fair enough!! There are plenty more here to choose from and those charities will gain no doubt because of my unreasonable request. In the meantime I will carry on as long as I can and hopefully please those who enjoy the way they are run.
I dont set out to irritate and annoy people and do try to reach a sensible conclusion, but feel its impossible to win this one which ever way I go.
