Gooseberry Bushes

What do new buds look like on gooseberry bushes? only bought ours last year so don't know what to look for, at present there is a lot of brown bud things, are these the beginning ? Sorry to appear so daft to all you seasoned gardeners!!!!! and thanks for anything you can tell me

Yes, new buds are brown or rusty-colour looking.

The buds are very tiny and are usually located just above the groups of three thorns which help protect developing buds
