It is also a church season in the western Christian traditional. It is the season that follows the twelve days of Christmas, and is celebrated on the 6th of January. This is the day that Christians celebrate the arrival of the wise men bringing gifts to baby Jesus in the manger, hence, the epiphany of Jesus to the Magi.
