This has got to be one of the best I've seen. http://youtu.be/R9rymEWJX38

I remember one of the Newspapers doing a report from Wembley, with a revolutionary new Football with a remote control device inside, that someone in the Stadium could drive back to the Goalkeeper, thus avoiding time wasting while the poor Ball-boys went to fetch it (Although I can't remember if it was the old or new Wembley).

It's from before I was born, but I think it's one of the best.

Driving to work in the late 70's I was listening to Noel Edmonds Breakfast Show. He had said he was in a plane flying from London to Edinburgh and was actually over Newcastle upon Tyne.

I was actually looking up in the sky for the plane.
This has got to be one of the best I've seen.

A few years ago, I convinced one of my Indian colleagues that for her to prove her "Britishness" to get her per permanent residency and get her British Citizenship, the company was building a complex at the back of where we worked (in fact it was a new housing complex) in this new complex they would be housing rescued Yaks, that had been abused by being in circuses and were made to jump through hoops etc., her job was to look after these yaks and to groom them and de-flea them 4 times a day. I put it in a letter with a very convincing letter from the Home Office, using their headed paper etc. I allowed her to cry for about 5 minutes, then she realised that the person signing the letter was my name spelled backwards. I still carry the scars!! :-)
There was an even better ball-tampering-related one in 1985, by the Belfast Newsletter.
Ireland had beaten England the Saturday before in the Five Nations to win the Triple Crown and Championship, with a late drop goal by Michael Kiernan. The ball seemed to hover forever in the air before sailing between the posts.
On the Monday morning (April 1) the newspaper ran a story that the RFU had lodged a complaint that the ball had had a homing device in it, and that an Ireland fan behind the goals had used it to direct the ball in the right direction.

It was very cleverly done, because the story was careful to rubbish the "homing device" idea, which everyone would probably agree was daft. But their switchboard was jammed with calls from irate local rugby fans demanding an apology from the English!
We were starting an electronic registration system at school, a lot of information was being held electronically, some years ago. I told my registration group that, because of this, the office would be able to print address labels for their parents' communications but they, the pupils, needed to write out their parents' names and addresses 21 times, a 7 x 3 layout, on a sheet of A4 that would then be scanned and used to print peel off labels. Quite a few of them started again because their writing wasn't their best! At the end, they were told to put them into File B 1N. They weren't happy but impressed with the April Fool!
