Alternative Tablets

Has anyone ever used a non-prescription alternative to Fortekor for dogs with chronic kidney failure? My collie cross was prescribed these by the vet but I wondered if anything else would be as effective (and cheaper!) Thanks.

My cat died of this so I know what I'm talking about and it is a horrible thing for them to go through. Unless someone on here knows differently, my advice would be to support your dog through his/her final months with whatever your vet prescribes. Your dog is now relying on you, more than it ever has, to do the right thing.
