Mother's Day Cards Go Gender-Neutral

An article on the front page of The Sunday Times reads -

'Waitrose is selling gender neutral Mother's Day cards as retailers reduce their use of the M-word to make today's celebration more "transgender inclusive".

The supermarket chain is selling a "Happy You Day" card in its Mother's Day range in which the word "mother" does not appear.

Waitrose said the move was aimed at "broadening out who the cards can go to, whether it's grandmas or transgender mums". Traditional cards are still sold.

Waitrose has been joined by other retailers, including Scribbler, whose Mother's Day offerings include a "Two mums are better than one" card for same-sex couples and a "Dad, thanks for being the most amazing mum" card.

Karen Pollock, a trans campaigner and therapist, said Mothering Sunday, the church's traditional name for Mother's Day, "feels more inclusive to me, since anyone can be 'mothering'".

I used to give my granny a Mothers Day card. I didn't need a 'Happy You Day' card. My sister has sent my dad flowers on Mothers Day since our mum died.

Similarly, my son gives my partner a Fathers Day card although he's never called him dad.

No one needs these daft cards. Send a normal one to whoever you feel warrants it.

As for the OP I think its a good idea, I feel a bit weird sending my stepmum a mothers day card when she didn't marry my father until I was 35 but she is still there doing a role if I need her.
My friend was raised by her dad and was saying that she would have loved to send him a card to mark what he has done for her as he has been both her mother and father.
