I mean "we've accomplished more than any other administration in US history" is both demonstrably false and not even a necessary boast in order for him to look good. In principle he could simply stress the potential progress on North Korea and be content -- but, for some reason, that's not Trump's style.
It can't look good for the US if its leader is basically not taken seriously on the world stage, and that comment prompted laughter and merriment -- detracts from whatever meaningful points he had to make.

thx for putting this up Fender
I didnt as I wanted people to comment
and it makes a change from the usual fare from the usual suspects: "there is a black web chat and I dont what is like or if it is any good or worth listening to - but why arent people screaming Racist?"
oh god normal day on AB
Coming up to an election in the US where the ladies of the great american republic are going to vote with their .....
the great ladies are not keen on gropers as president nor as supreme court justices
I wondered if he wrote his own speeches
Overall - if he has been a man of the people
then it is very difficult to be portentous and a leader - and he didnt bring it off
I think he said at one point - "I am going to champion America First - and you can all join in!" - with plenty of pauses to cue wild applause that didnt come
"I have done more than anyone else...." - and there was uncued laughter which even he said he hadnt expected
Can you imagine FDR giving such a speech ? ( truman - yes)
Or Kennedy saying - "Ich bin ein Berliner - and I am just gonna climb onto an aircraft and leave y'all to it"
and all the Germans falling around laughing and saying
"O god he is so funny - get him off!"
No - I can't

Embarrassing. I got the feeling Trump knew very well why they were laughing. And he had the good grace almost to look embarrassed himself.
His isolationist, selfish stance is no laughing matter though. When the most powerful nation on earth plays the put-upon victim it’s bad news for all. But it’s the spirit of the age just now: majorities playing the victim, snarling at the rest

//I wondered if he wrote his own speeches//
I'm pretty sure he didn't write the speech he delivered in Poland last year - you know, the one about symphonies and all that.
That was clearly based on Pericles' funeral oration (as recorded by Thucydides) with its grand theme Athens as the School of Hellas.

the one where he said that Poland can defend themselves against Russia and the audience went eek!
first visit to Europe - and after that - the europeans kinda said no thanks .... The leader of the free world says no to globalism which means that the rest of us can start learning Russian and Mandarin

Trump was clearly playing up to his voters. Why would he do anything else at a UN hot air conference.
"I abhor this person so much now I can't listen to anything he says"
There are many people I abhor but I listen to them so I can get a fuller perspective on things.
But then if you are not interested in arguably one of the most powerful men in the world has to say, whether you agree or not, then feel free to stick your head in the sand.
