If a name or word ends in an "s" such as Dickens, I put the apostrophe after the "s" so "Dickens' novels" but some would write "Dickens's novels" the choice is yours.
possessive apostrophe, the prisoner "belongs to" Susan.

The exception would be "the army killed its prisoners" - no apostrophe in "its" except when short for "it is".
