Problems With My Computer

Tried to change my Windows 10 password earlier and was obviously clicking onto things that I didn't understand.
Now when I click onto some links, it's coming up as gobbledygook and says
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
Anyone know how I can correct this please?

Your web browser appears to be seeing the HTMl code on some web pages as XML code and doesn't know how to handle it. My first instinct here would be to try resetting your browser to its 'fresh out of the box' settings and/or to try a different browser. (If you need instructions, it would help to know which web browser you use).

Hi Chris, I'd been reading one of barrys posts and people were saying they thought someone called Dan Hatfield might be gay.
I didn't know who he is so I Googled his name and got this.(link below)
When I clicked onto it I got the gobbledygook and also on another link I clicked onto.
I was using the Avast browser at the time.

Don't think it is a serious issue Barsel just annoying I suppose. Looks like you have, somehow chosen to open XML files using an app instead of Edge. You need to get into settings and make Edge the default file opener(works if you are using Chrome too). Gawd knows how you did it in the first place. I am looking at how I would tackle it for now. Meanwhile no need to panic. ( Mr Mainwaring)

It seems to have just happened when I google Dan Hatfield and not on anything else, so I'm not worried about it now.

Still can't imagine how you managed it haha. Right no sweat on this and take it steady, you cannot do any harm as long as you don't go off piste.
1. In the search box bottom left in the task bar, type Default Programs
2. Look for "Choose a default app for each type of program" grey box.
(This opens up a settings dialogue box and can take a little while to load depending on what is in there) so wait!
3. When a list appears look at the far left info( in that pesky box) and scroll down the big long list to .XML that has XML Document written underneath it. Now on the right of that you should see a box that has unbelievably the Internet Explorer icon. If it hasn't, maybe it has something else or a plus sign, click whatever icon is there and from the list choose the Internet Explorer icon. Tick an always use this app box if it is there. (I have not gone the full distance cos I don't want to screw my setting up) If you do not want to go through this I suspect that the next time you run an upgrade or patch from Microsoft then it will automatically sort itself out.
