Match Postponed

Any match involving a football was banned last weekend by order of the English Football Association. From the Premiership, watched all over the world, to women’s football, schools, churches pubs, not one ball was kicked.
I cannot figure out why?
This weekend more top flight matches are postponed. Home ties involving London teams are called off, apparently because of a shortage of police officers. But also postponed is Manchester United v Leeds United, taking place 200 miles away and 2 days before the funeral. Utter madness.

It is a shortage of police officers for the one off event in London.
Police from other constabularies are to be drafted into London to deal with the crowds.

Sensible move in my opinion.

Manchester v Leeds has a shortage because lots of officers from GMP and Yorkshire Constabulary are re-deployed in London, backing up the Met.

I suspect police officers from all over the country will be drafted to London for crowd management thus causing a shortage of officers needed to control football crowds in the provinces.

I think it is less treating the mourning crowds like football fans than security and public safety. Crowds are a danger in themselves, there is always an opportunity for pickpockets and other crime as well as being a terrorist target.
It would just take one anti-monarchist nutter to start shouting obscenities for a full-scale riot to break out

Probably no different to any other day since coppers in many parts have given up Policing.

Last night I was in the car with Radio 5 on as a minute’s “silence” was held in Lisbon before Sporting v Tottenham.
My son actually rather grumpily asked me to turn the radio down!
What a racket!
At the end of which the commentator went “Impeccably observed!”

It was frustrated to have games called off but hardly the end of the world

This weekend's Brighton/Palace match was postponed due to the rail strikes, but despite their cancellation, there apparently wasn't enough time to "unpostpone" it.

the burtal reality is that giant crowds in the street of london might be prone to attack from terrorist organisations and or people who are not fans of the monarchy

Ich, as i said on another thread, the minute's silence was 'impeccably observed' before the kick off of the Preston v Burnley game. And i would imagine that was the same at all the other grounds in the UK where games took place.
It was reported that some Zurich fans took to booing the 2 minutes silence prior to the kick off of their match v Arsenal last week.

Well, the Liverpool Echo would claim that.
Tik Tok and Instagram showed the reality and as one commented, BT Sport definitely turned down the pitch-side volume prior to kick off.
It was maybe 15 at most causing the problems, but in a stadium where everyone else is in hushed silence it would have been rather audible and certainly was.

Maybe if the football thugs were not so violent and abusive they would not need the level of policing they do, and the games could go ahead without them. Their own fault if they are losing out on seeing their teams.
