Why is this paedophile enabler still in the positions he's in??
From the Telegraph
Justin Welby admits he was warned about serial child abuser 40 years ago
Archbishop of Canterbury acknowledges he was told in 1981 to ‘stay away’ from John Smyth, who abused at least 115 before he died in 2018

Welby was foisted on the C of E. He wasn't even a vicar at the time.
I think he is a good man - who is struggling with issues which have arisen. He is not always getting it right. I believe him when he says that he did not know about this until 2013.
To set the scene straight - I am a member of the C of E because I was baptised into it. My mum was a Scottish Methodist so I grew up more or less like that, but nearest church was Anglican so that settled that.
I often cause ructions locally, especially when I resigned (rather noisily) from the PCC over the closure of churches during the Covid idiocy - this was in direct conflict with the Archbish.
I am not familiar with the details of all this, so find it hard to comment further. I know that it is historic- and was probably dealt with at the time. I also cannot understand how someone is still in the same position he held, having known about it; there may be some obscure Church-law thing
Most of us just get on with the nitty gritty.
Welby is some sort of absent figurehead to most of us.
Personally, I rated and admire Dr. Sentamu (whom I have met on several occasions) more.
