'Hurdies' is an old word for bottom or buttocks.

It can also mean 'hips' or 'thighs' but obviously not in the example sentence you give above.

Maybe not in your neck of the woods, Goofy, but it does in The Oxford English Dictionary as well as Chambers between them. It's a question of whom we are to believe, therefore...people who live in your area or the accepted scholarly experts of the English language!

I thought a hurdle was a lightly built fence sort of woven with branches so that might fit
